The steps to format text or change font styles on WhatsApp are quite easy and can be completed within seconds.
As mentioned earlier, WhatsApp provides four ways to format text or change font style within the app or the web app:

How to Bold the Text on WhatsApp
There are two ways to make text bold on WhatsApp. The first is to place an asterisk (*) on both sides of the text, like this: *This is a sample text to make text bold on WhatsApp*. The second way is by following these steps:
- To send a message on WhatsApp, open the app and go to the Contacts tab. From there, select the individual you would like to message.
- To select all the text you have written, press and hold (or “long-press”) on the text until a menu appears. Then, select the “Select all” option.
- The BIU option will appear once you are finished. Click on it and select the text you want to appear in bold.
If you want to make a certain text bold in WhatsApp, enter an asterisk on either side of the text. For example, if you wanted to make the word “bold” appear bold, you would type bold. WhatsApp will automatically format the text for you so that it seems aggressive when viewed by other users.
How to Italic a Text on the WhatsApp
To italicize your message on WhatsApp, you can place an underscore on both sides of the text like this: “This is a sample text to italicize a message on WhatsApp.” You can also follow this method:
- To send a message on WhatsApp, open the app and select the contact you wish to message.
- Please enter the text you wish to select, and then use your mouse or trackpad to highlight it.
- You will see the BIU option once you are done. To turn on Italics, tap on BIU and select the Italic option.
Once you enter the underscore at the end of the text you want to italicize, WhatsApp will automatically format the selected text. The output will look like this.
How to Strikethrough a Text on the WhatsApp
To strikethrough a text or message on WhatsApp, put a tilde (~) at the beginning and end of the text/message. For example: ~This is a sample text to strikethrough text on WhatsApp~.
- You can send a text with a strikethrough using the steps below.
- Open WhatsApp and select the contact you want to message.
- Please select the text you would like to enter.
- Once you are finished, you will see the BIU option. Tap on it and select the Strikethrough option.
Once you enter the tilde at the end of the text you want to strikethrough, WhatsApp will automatically format the selected text.

To format your text as monospace on WhatsApp, you need to place three backticks (“) at the beginning and end of the text/message. For example: "This is a sample text to monospace text on WhatsApp. “` You can also use this method to send a monospace text message on WhatsApp.
- To send a message on WhatsApp, open the app and select the contact you want to message.
- Please enter your text and then select it using the mouse or trackpad.
- After you are finished, you will see the option for BIU. Just tap it and then select Monospace.
Once you enter three backticks at the end of the text you want to monospace, WhatsApp will format the selected text, and the output will look like this: monospaced text.
