WhatsApp used to be an open application on your smartphone, which meant that anyone who had access to your phone could also access your WhatsApp messages. However, WhatsApp now provides end-to-end encryption for its customers, meaning only those involved in a conversation can see the message content. This problem persists – if someone borrows or gains access to your phone, your messages are unsafe.
While multiple app lock applications are available, they often show too many ads that can cause users to uninstall them out of irritation.
The latest update of WhatsApp solves the problem of chat safety by introducing a Whatsapp lock within the WhatsApp application. This new fantastic feature of Whatsapp allows users to add a fingerprint, pin, or face ID lock to protect the app. So, now your Whatsapp chats are safe, even if your phone is in someone’s hand.
WhatsApp’s new lock screen feature is available on Android and iOS devices. You need to activate it by going into the Whatsapp settings section.
You are probably excited about this new feature and can not wait to try it. Below, we will explain the step-by-step process for setting up a password for your WhatsApp chats. Stay with us until the end and you will be able to secure your private conversations.
How to Setup the Password
You will need to have your device’s latest and updated version of WhatsApp before getting started. If you are using an older version, uninstall it and get the latest one from the Google Play Store, or you can find an updated version of WhatsApp from third-party websites.
Once you have installed the latest app, go to your Whatsapp settings. The location of the settings option will depend on which Operating system you are using (Android or iOS).
Procedure for the Android
For Android users, tap the three dots on your Whatsapp home screen. You will find the settings option under that.
Once you find the settings, tap the “Account option” and select the “Account” tab.
In the account section, you will find the Privacy option, where you can adjust your privacy settings to control who can see your account information and activity.
Click on privacy.
Scrolling down, you will find the Fingerprint lock option at the end.
Choose the “automatically lock” option in the settings menu.
Procedure for the iOS
- If you are an iOS user, you will find the settings option on the bottom right-hand side of your screen. You can adjust the brightness, sound, and other locations to your preference.
- In the settings section, you will find the “Accounts” tab. This is where you can manage your different accounts and settings for each.
- The “PRIVACY” option can be found in the accounts section at the top.
- A new menu will be opened with many options related to privacy. This will help you manage your privacy settings and keep your information safe.
- You will find the “Screen lock” option at the end of the screen. You can set how long your screen stays before it locks itself.
- Choose the “Face ID” option to turn it on.
- Once Face ID is enabled, you will see the other options, like how long you want to set for the lock to appear.
- Choose the “automatically lock” option in the settings menu.
- Here you will see the three options.
- One is instantly second after one minute, and the third after half an hour.
Now you can open WhatsApp with Face ID, fingerprint, or passcode. Even with the lock activated, you will still be able to reply to messages from notifications and answer calls via the service.
